When we showed up at the YMCA Job Fair this May, we weren’t just there to fill open roles. We were there to talk about what it feels like to be part of something that gets built the right way.
Construction isn’t just concrete and steel, it’s people. It’s teams that have your back. It’s showing up in the cold, the heat, the unknown, and knowing you’re surrounded by folks who give a damn.
That’s the part we brought to the table. And it’s the part that resonated the most.
What the Resume Doesn’t Say
We met dozens of people, some just starting out, some looking for a second chance, and some who’ve spent more time on site than behind a desk. And what we looked for wasn’t a perfect resume. It was:
- Work ethic over credentials
- Curiosity over experience
- People skills over bravado
Because let’s face it: this industry can teach a trade. What we can’t teach is care, accountability, and the kind of grit that gets a job done right.
The GCCW Difference: Why We Show Up
At the job fair, we talked less about tasks and more about culture. Here’s what we shared:
- We work like we live here, because we do. That means taking care of each other and the communities we build in.
- We value safety as a mindset, not a checklist. Our people go home safe because we put the right processes, and people, in place.
- We grow from within. Whether you start with a shovel or a trade ticket, we’ve got space for ambition, learning, and leadership.
It’s not always glamorous. But it’s real. And for the people who came to the booth, asked questions, shared stories, we see you. We were you.
It’s Bigger Than the Booth
Events like this remind us why we build in the first place. Not just because there’s a contract or a deadline. But because when we invest in people, we build something that lasts longer than any foundation. So thanks to everyone who stopped by. We’ll keep showing up, for the work, for the people, and for the future of our industry.
